Fear not, the Truganina Explosives Reserve does NOT have explosives on it anymore. In fact it has been unused since 1962 when they ceased the handling and the shipping of the explosives from the site.
Thankfully, local residents saved this land from developers and now is a place for tours and other events. Mamma LOVES the old homestead and the surrounding gardens.
Mamma's special mention: Tours by the ranger happen on the hour on specified dates throughout the year. It's quite interesting to hear about the goings on here and then see the evidence of the explosives reserves history. - you can even see the old tram tracks that led to the no longer existing pier on the bay.
